Use this when you sell single pieces out of a box or pack you also sell whole. Run it when a case is opened, and check the Open Units tab whenever the piece count looks wrong.
Before you start
- The package product has Units per package filled in, and the loose-piece product is linked to it under Linked package product (both in Inventory → Catalog).
- At least one unopened package is in stock.
Steps
- Tap Inventory, then the Open Units tab.
- Under Open a new unit, pick the package product and tap Open new unit. Wait for New unit opened for ….
- The row shows the product, Remaining pieces, Opened by and Opened at.
- Sell pieces on Checkout using the loose-piece product. Remaining goes down with each sale; when it reaches zero the app opens the next package automatically if one is in stock.
- If a recount shows a different number, tap Correct count, type the real Remaining count and a Reason, then tap Correct count.
- If the rest of the pack is damaged, tap Void, type a Reason and tap Void unit. The remaining pieces are written off.
Check it worked
- The package product’s stock on the Stock tab dropped by one.
- The Open Units row shows the full Remaining count, and it decreases as pieces sell.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The product is not in the Open a new unit list | It has no Units per package. Edit it in Inventory → Catalog and fill that field. |
| The app says a unit is already open and shows its remaining pieces | You cannot open a second unit of the same product while one still has pieces. Sell or void the current one first. |
| A sale of loose pieces fails with an out-of-stock message | There is no unopened package left to open. Receive stock first (see Receive a shipment). |
| You voided a unit by mistake | A void cannot be undone from this screen. Add the pieces back with Adjust stock with a reason. |
