Run this every morning before the first customer. Nothing can be charged until the register (the app calls it Caja) is open on this terminal.
Before you start
- The computer, receipt printer and cash drawer are on.
- You have counted the cash you are putting in the drawer.
- You know your own PIN (the register can only be opened by a manager or admin).
Steps
- On the sign-in screen, tap your name under Who are you? and enter your PIN.
- If the app asks for Opening cash, type the cash float for your own shift in Drawer float and tap Start shift. If you already had an open shift, the app skips this and takes you straight to Home.
- On Home, tap Staff.
- In the Caja panel, check that Status: says Closed, then tap Open Caja.
- Type the counted cash in Opening Cash and tap Open Caja.
- Wait for the message Caja opened successfully.
- Tap Home, then Checkout, and confirm the search box says Scanner ready.
- If the printer is on, ask a cashier to ring up the first sale and check the receipt prints.
Check it worked
- The Caja panel on Staff shows Status: Open, who opened it, and Opening cash:.
- The Close Caja button is now visible instead of Open Caja.
- A cashier can complete a sale on Checkout without a No caja is open message.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| You do not see the Caja panel on Staff | Only managers and admins see it. Sign out and sign in as a manager, or ask one to open the register. |
| The message says this terminal already has an open caja | Yesterday was never closed. Close it first (see Close the day) and then open today. |
| The Opening Cash field rejects the amount | It cannot be negative. Type zero if you have not counted yet and record the float later as an income entry. |
| Cashiers see No caja is open. Ask a manager to open the caja first. | The register was opened on a different terminal. Each terminal has its own register; open it on the terminal that will sell. |
